Sunset Sounds
Posted by rashnashroff
Yeehaw another big summer festival to get a little excited about!   Sunset Sounds at Brisbane's Botanical Gardens is kind of like Falls Festival. Most of the acts are the same, its just the location and that's different. It's on Wednesday Jan 6 and Thursday Jan 7.    Oh, and the tickets don't sell out after like a minute from over zealous computer freaks who sit at their desktops refreshing ticketek.   Ona  side note, I remember sitting (yes, that's right, sitting) at the Enmore at the Ph...

Is Triple J's Hottest 100 really all that hot?
Posted by rashnashroff
I think not.   A couple of months ago Triple J put in the hands of its viewers what the Hottest 100 Songs of All Time were. The results weren't too surprising for me and in fact I was quite happy with what I heard (although I do have to say that I am not a fan of Joy Divison (do you all hate me now)).   The compilation CD however kind of does not really reflect what I heard on those days of naughty workplace listening where I was feeling the anticipation of 'what song will they play...

Bah! Humbug!
Posted by rashnashroff
Arctic Monkeys have release their third studio album Humbug. Can you believe it's been four years since ‘I Think You Look Good on the Dancefloor’ graced our ears?     With many songs being produced by Queens of the Stone Age kingpin Josh Homme and with them sourcing much inspiration from Black Sabbath, The Arctic Monkeys have abandoned their sing song along catchy tunes for more mature and layered music. Most of the lyrics on this album are more deep and dark than in previous albums...

STONEFEST

Ah homegrown goodness....   STONEFEST is hitting University of Canberra on the 31st October. In its 41st year, Stonefest is arguably Australia's longest running music festival. Festival promoters are promising 'Twelve hours of music that will rock you to the very depths of your soul'.     So who is exactly rocking me to the very depths of my soul?   The Living End, Josh Pyke, Birds of Tokyo (my personal fav of the lineup), Frenzal Rhomb, British India, Children Collide and Urthboy...but wait,...

Little Birdy...kaw!
Posted by rashnashroff
Indie? Pop? Rock?   I'm not sure where to put Little Birdy who will be hitting up HQ on September 10 @ 7.30pm promoting their (oh so amazing) album Confetti, along with support acts Red Riders and Hungary Kids of Hungary   My favourite song is Hairdo. It's one of those songs that really, I have no idea what it means. But hey, it sounds good so I listen to it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9QImp_4yVI ... Isn't that what music is all about?   Oh and tickets are a cheeeeeeep (get it,...

Hello friends   Coming to Governor Hindmarsh Hotel on Tuesday 8th September is the English electro pop band Does It Offend You, Yeah? Many of you will know the band from their uber catchy song Dawn of the Dead. Heard it? Not sure? I bet you have....here ya'ar       Told you so.   Anyway, soooo I quite like these English lads. Georgia Fair @ The Zoo Brisbane
Posted by anguskirkby
A first glance at Georgia Fair duo Jordan Wilson and Ben Riley had me guessing these guys couldn’t be a day over 18. Naturally easy going, even on stage, their music sounded beautifully soft; the perfect kind for Sunday afternoon drinks and such. Lead singer Jordan had a stunning voice, and it was evident both he and guitarist Ben had a laid back disposition. Even their stage presence was casual, making them immediately amiable. Something New was a wonderfully cruisey tune, and Jordan enlighten...

DIAFRIX
Posted by rashnashroff
Melbourne based hip hop/funk duo Diafrix have completed their debut album Concrete Jungle.   African refugees Momo and Azmarino came from the Comoros Islands around a decade ago and met at a workshop held by Joelistics from TZU in 2001. In an interview in 3D world, Momo and Azmarino disucss how CRAZY African voodoo magic happened (well, not quite put like that....) and within a few hours they had an entire song written together. "Verses, choruses, bridges and everything!"   Now I always...

Not bad eh! This year the likes of Ajax and Sidney Samson will be hitting up the Clarendon ...

GET INFECTED
Posted by rashnashroff
No! It's not the AIDS I am talking about!     It's Infected Mushroom who are set release their new album The Legend Of The Black Shawarma on the 11th of September. The album from vocalists Duvdex and Erez Eisen features a heap of guest vocals from Perry Farrell, Korn frontman Jonathan Davis and Jim Morrison (isn't he dead?)   What do you think, ladies? Does either one of the hot Isreali duo do it for you?    The inspiration for the...strange and slightly creepy album title was though...

AFTERLIFE (afterparty of PARKLIFE)
Posted by anguskirkby
There is a misconception that once Parklife ends so does the partying, hedonism and general tomfoolery. But what sort of asinine thinking is this? Being the sunday of the long weekend, the revelry merely shifts to The Metro, which is the venue for Afterlife, Fuzzy's official post-Parklife party. The lineup includes ebullient Frenchman Busy P, who of course runs Ed Banger recordss and used to manage a certain Daft Punk, the brainstorming  electro onomatopoeia that is MSTRKRFT and the rapture p...

Last night, (September 2) scores of fans and media descended on Sydney’s Cargo Bar for an exclusive world-first listen of to one of the most highly anticipated releases of the year Good Charlotte’s ‘Cardiology’!

The invite only crowd were treated to a sample of tracks from their fifth album, which signals a return to what made us love tattooed-twins Benji and Joel Madden in the first place rock-heavy riffs, pseudo-pop anthems, punk-worthy hooks and songs you can learn the words too.
